Q. Why is the postal charge relatively high?

A. We keep P&P charges to a minimum, and as we operate on a non-profit basis we could not continue to exist if we reduced the level of charges we currently make. Several factors impact our ability to reduce P&P charges. Firstly, although itemised simply as postage on the checkout page, the postage charge includes for picking and packing the orders, which is a charge separate to the actual postal costs we face. As a very small company, we cannot benefit from the discounted postal services that now exist, and we remain largely at the mercy of Royal Mail who force us, on many occasions, to pay for parcel post on small items of Lego that just happen to be marginally larger than 23mm, e.g. it costs us exactly the same to post a single piece of Lego measuring 2.5cm x 2.5cm x 2.5cm weighing just 3g as it does to post 1000 parts weighing a full kilogram. We have started using Hermes to courier some orders and P&P charges have been reduced accordingly.

All our costs are kept to a minimum and the operator earns less than £2 per hour running the service. The service provided is extremely labour intensive and together with the factors above, we can do nothing to lower the P&P charge levels we presently apply. Other Lego suppliers that are larger companies may be able to dispatch orders with lower P&P charges, but they may not be able to provide the large range of both modern and vintage parts that we can.
